Customers always asking does it a 42U rack could put 21pcs 2U servers? The answer is No, it's not.

Capacity tells us how big of the cabinet. As we know, the cabinet is in the unit of “U” to show its capacity. But that doesn’t mean a 42U server rack could stock 21pcs 2U servers. Why the result is different from our thought? Since we are ignoring the usable capacity of the cabinet. Also, other factors didn’t take into account. So today, I would like to share with you what is the usable capacity according to one of my United States’ customer’s inquiries.

Question: Hi, sunny. I want to know the usable capacity of your 12U, 400mm, 550mm, and 600mm depth wall mount cabinet. I intended use of the cabinet is for devices that are approximately 440mm long. They do not require any airflow. Will there be enough room from the front rail to the back panel for these devices to fit?

Answer: The usable capacity is the distance between the rail, are exception both the distance between the front rail to the front door and back rail to the rear door. Take our 600mm depth 12U cabinet as an example. The distance from rail to the front door is 80mm. And rail to rear door is 70mm.  But it’s movable and can be adjusted for a little bit more space. See the Pic. As below, you may understand what I say. So, we think BOLEIN’s 600mm 12U cabinet is fit for your device.

So from the above example, we could get how to measure the usable capacity. If your end-users also asking similar questions, I think you may have an idea of how to help him to solve them.

What's more. Except for the size of your network device, you also need to check if they plan to leave enough space for airflow, for manger cables, or even put the power supply in it. The more details you get from your end-users, you will clearly enough what kind of rack cabinet they want to buy.
